Rossford Junior High School teacher charged with drug trafficking

ROSSFORD – A city junior high school teacher and coach is facing felony drug charges after marijuana was
found in his vehicle at the school parking lot Monday.

Rossford Police say that Todd J. Eckel, 42, was
arrested on one count of trafficking in marijuana, a fourth-degree felony.

Rossford Police Chief Glen Goss said this afternoon that
officers Monday received a call giving the description of a vehicle and an occupant that was allegedly
selling illegal drugs at a local business.

Officers located the vehicle, owned by Eckel, on Rossford High
School property around 3 p.m.

A canine alerted officers to the vehicle, and they found four
containers of marijuana attached magnetically to the bumper.

Goss said Eckel was arrested in the parking lot.

Goss said that at this time there is no indication that Eckel
was selling drugs to students. He did say that vague, anonymous calls placed previously to police had
indicated that an employee was selling drugs to students, but there is nothing to link these claims to
Eckel.

Goss said that the police are attempting to track the calls
they have received in order to interview the individual or individuals that made them and glean more
information.

Goss said that, under normal circumstances, the amount of
marijuana found attached to Eckel’s vehicle would only amount to a misdemeanor; however, under Ohio law,
the manner in which it was packaged, and its transportation on to school property, made the charge a
felony.
