Portage man wanted for BG robbery

A warrant for the arrest of a Portage man stems back to a Bowling Green burglary on Nov. 1.
The Bowling Green Police Division issued the felony warrant for Brandon Smarszcz, 37, for burglary on
Thursday.
He is suspected in taking more than $9,000 in money from a North Grove Street home.
According to the police report, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of North Grove at just before 5
p.m. When a tenant woke on, he reported noticing his medication was missing from the kitchen and then
noticed containers of change also was missing.
He said the loose change was valued at approximately $1,000. The petty cash in his safe, estimated
between $3,000 and $4,000, also was missing. In total, he reported $9,346 missing.
The tenant also reported property valued at $4,000 was missing.
The damage to the back door appeared to have been made by a pry tool.
The suspect and the tenant knew each other, according to the report, and Smarszcz knew the tenant would
not be home on Halloween night.
Bowling Green police were alerted by Huron police they were investigating a suspicious person complaint.
They recovered approximately $1,700 in change and $6,000 in cash along with a pry tool and putty knife.

Smarszcz is known to drive an older model dark blue Chevy Avalanche and to be in the Portage/Bowling
Green area.
