PERRYSBURG – On Tuesday more than 15 volunteers gathered at the Perrysburg Senior Center to assemble care
bags which were later delivered  to the Perrysburg Christian United food pantry.
The non-perishable food items were gathered at several community sites throughout the county including
all sites of the Wood County Committee on Aging.  The effort was part of the "Go Orange for
Hunger" program as part of Hunger Awareness Month observed in September.
The goal was to create 200 care bags which would be delivered to those in need in the county with a focus
on seniors. Each care bag contained one selection of canned meats/proteins, one fruit, one vegetable,
one stew or soup, one grain, one pasta and one sauce.
There were 100 bags assembled at Perrysburg, with 100 more created at the Bowling Green site.
Excess items were also delivered to food pantries to help serve the other clients of the charitable
sites.
Cheryl Fix, from the Perrysburg Senior Center said, "It was great to see so many people come
together for this effort."
Officials from the Perrysburg Fire Department assisted in transferring the food to the PCU pantry.
