Bowling Green State University women’s soccer head coach Matt Fannon helped resurrect a Falcons program
that was among the worst in the Mid-American Conference.
Fannon announced his resignation on Tuesday to accept the women’s soccer head coaching job at Iowa State.
His employment is pending a background check, per an Iowa State release.
While at Bowling Green, Fannon won more games in his three years than the program had won over the past
eight season, tallying 41 wins and back-to-back MAC championships.
BG combined to score 89 goals over the past two seasons, recording the two greatest goal-scoring seasons
in program history, and tied the program’s highest win total with 14 wins in each of the past two
seasons.
As a result, Fannon became the first MAC head coach to win the conference coach of the year award in
three consecutive seasons.
“I’d like to thank Matt for his leadership, time and effort at Bowling Green,” BGSU director of athletics
Bob Moosbrugger said in a school press release. “With three consecutive MAC Coach-of-the-Year awards and
back-to-back MAC championships, Matt obviously did tremendous things here at BGSU.”
