County youth fare well at state fair

Wood County 4-H members performed very well at the recent Ohio State Fair.
Miscellaneous
Six 4-H members earned the prestigious "Clock Trophy" award for having the best project in
their project category in Ohio.
The winners were (listed with 4-H club and the project) Jarret Baldanado, Live & Learn, Bicycle
Adventures 1; Katie Gerber, Gold Medal, One-On-One; Hannah Judson, Colorful Clovers, Rockets Away; Sarah
Selzer, Dowling Stitch, Stir & Stock, Dress Up Outfit; and Raegen Vickers, Gold Medal, Hands to
Larger Service.
To earn the clock trophy, the 4-H member first had to be chosen to participate based on their judging at
the county level. They then compete at the state fair where the top projects are chosen as the
"Outstanding of the Day." From those outstanding winners, the elite project is award the
clock.
Numerous other county 4-H members were recognized with the Outstanding of the Day including Kira Miller
who earned the rosette for two different projects.
She is a member of the Lucky Charms 4-H club and earned her awards in both Robotics 1 and Club Teen
Leadership.

Livestock and Horse
In the livestock area at the Ohio State Fair, several youth earned top awards with their livestock. Those
earning a championship or first place award include:
• Hannah Frobose, Livestock Unlimited, showed the Champion Dark Crossbred Barrow and the Grand Champion
Barrow. She took first in swine showmanship (age 17). Other top 10 finishes were as follows: 4.   Market
Beef; 5. Beef Skill-A-Thon (age 17); and 10. Overall Market Swine Exhibitor
• Hunter Frobose, Livestock Unlimited,  had two first-place results taking first in class in the Dark
Crossbreed division, as well as first in the Beef Skill-A-Thon (age 16). Other top 10 finishes were: 2.
Swine Showmanship (age 16); 3. Market Beef Class; 6. Beef Showmanship (age 16); 2. Sheep Skill-A-Thon
(age 16) 3. in Class Heavy Weight Market Lamb division; 3. in Class Crossbreed Market Lamb"
• Landon Richards, Simply Stock showed the Reserve Champion Sheep Breeding Heifer, which was also the
"Best of Buckeye." He also won the Beef Showmanship (age 17). Other top 10 finishes were: 3.
Sheep Showmanship  (age 17); and 9. Sheep Skill-A-Thon (age 17)
• Lauren Nissen, Saddles & Surreys, earned first in the Senior Horse Poster contest. Other top 10
finishes were: 3. Place Western Showmanship and 4. Place English Showmanship
• Aria Morgan, Sunset Saddlers, took first place honors in Hunter Equitation (age 9-11). The other top 10
finish was 5. Western Showmanship (age 11).
Others earning top 10 finishes include:
