Carol L. Davis, 78, of Bowling Green, passed away on December 6, 2014 at Wood County Hospital with her
family at her bedside.
Carol was born in Bowling Green on July 2, 1936 to the late Roger and Loretta (Tyner) Hepfinger.
Carol married Marion (Sonny) Shaw on December 5, 1954 and they had three sons: Bob (Michelle Yant) of
Bowling Green, Jeff (Carol Fornof) of Grove City, Ohio and Shawn (Jeannie Dedman) of Bowling Green.
Carol later married James Davis on April 22, 1971.
He proceeded her in death on March 13, 2007 as did her stepson, Richard (Dick) Davis.
Carol graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1954.
In her early years she worked for LaSalle and Koch Company (1956-1965) and Henry Manufacturing Company
(1965-1970). In 1970 Carol began her tenure with Bowling Green State University in the Research Services
Office of The BGSU Graduate College. Carol retired in 1994 after 25 years of service. She was referred
to by many at the university as a "tremendous asset to BGSU faculty and their graduate
students" in her role as a Grants Management Specialist. She was known by many professors for her
outstanding monthly research newsletter. Carol was respected and appreciated for "going beyond
expectations" to assist professors, graduate students, and train numerous Research Services
directors over the years.
One of Carol’s most enjoyable hobbies was bowling. In 2001 Carol was inducted into the Bowling Green
Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame and honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. For many years
she bowled at Al-Mar Lanes on the Monday night ladies league. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies
Auxiliary of The Fraternal Order of Eagles #2180 and Ladies Auxiliary of the Bowling Green VFW #1148.
She was a fierce Sequence competitor; a game she loved and could play for hours on end.
In addition to her three sons, Carol is survived by a stepson, John Davis of Las Vegas; three sisters:
Mrs. Linda (Allen) Culler of Courtland, Ohio, Mrs. Paula (Allen) Manrow of Bowling Green and Mrs. Anita
(Dennis) Donley of Portage, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 5 nephews and 3 nieces.
Carol loved spending time with her family and preparing their favorite dishes – mainly her fried chicken,
baked beans, and everyone’s favorite, her signature dish, macaroni salad.
