Second-ranked Toledo St. John’s was a 5-0 winner Saturday over Bowling Green in a Northwest Hockey
Conference Red Division game in the Ice Arena.
The Titans scored twice in the first and third periods, and once in the second period to improve to
11-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the NHC.
Ian Rapp had two goals and two assists for St. John’s, and Mike Barrett made 20 saves.
BG is 10-5-1, 1-1.
The Titans took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from BG resident Derek Dohanos at 8:16 and Nick
Baumgartner on the power play at 13:12.
Rapp gave St. John’s a 3-0 lead at 4:33 of the second period. Rapp and Jake Roman added third-period
goals at 11:48 and 14:33, respectively.
St. John’s held a 36-20 edge in shots.
“St. John’s highlighted some of the defensive deficiencies we need to work on,” BG coach Dan DeWitt said.
“Our defensive zone coverage wasn’t very good. They had two or three goals that resulted from that.
“We got away from what’s been successful offensively. We weren’t getting pucks deep and our forecheck
wasn’t good enough. Our forecheck is the reason we’re getting 35 shots a game and we didn’t get that.”

The Bobcats were ninth in the first state coaches poll and were among the teams receiving votes in the
second poll.
“St. John’s is the benchmark, the measuring stick,” Dewitt said. “They’re a quality team and they
probably should be ranked No. 1 in the state.”
BG and St. John’s meet again Friday in a 9 p.m. start at Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter. The Bobcats then will
host No. 9 St. Francis Jan. 12 at 1:30 p.m.
The Bobcats’ game Sunday at Indianapolis Chatard was canceled because of snow.
