Free concerts at museum during ‘It’s Friday’
TOLEDO – It’s Friday! Music series moves inside for this week and the Dec. 6 concert at the Toledo Museum
of Art. Both concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held in the Cloister.
The Oct. 4 concert will feature Toledo-based jazz singer Lori Lefevre and her quartet. The Dec. 6 concert
will feature jazz vocalist Sarah D’Angelo and an ensemble of musicians from the region.
Perrysburg symphony opens season
PERRYSBURG — The Perrysburg Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Travis Jurgens, music director will
launch its 59th season on Oct. 11.
Jurgens has chosen musical scores all composed by women, with the theme of “Women in Music.” The
selections include Jennifer Higdon’s Dance Card, Eugene Magalif’s Flute Concerto performed by Coreisa
Lee, flutist. This will mark the American Premier of the piece, also Louise Farrenc’s Symphony No. 3 in
G minor.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Perrysburg Junior High School, 550 E. South Boundary St. The
building is handicapped accessible. Tickets can be purchased at the door; adults are $15, seniors are
$10.
Students with identification admitted free.
Art education objects to be on display during Unshelved
TOLEDO – Did you, a parent or a grandparent take an art class at the Toledo Museum of Art? If so, you may
recognize some of the objects that will be displayed at the next Unshelved program at the TMA Art
Reference Library on Oct. 17 from 6-7:30 p.m.
“We will have some early art education books, photos from classes and the artwork produced as well as a
portfolio from an art student from the 1930s,” said Alison Huftalen, head librarian. “It is a unique
look back at the reason the museum was founded – to support art education.”
Visitors are free to drop in during the Unshelved program to view the materials and learn more about the
history of art classes at TMA.
Some of the items to view during this program are original cards used to teach students as well as the
portfolio of one of the students who was a teenager when she took classes at TMA in the 1930s.
Located on the first floor of the University of Toledo Center for the Visual Arts, the Art Reference
Library collections focus on the museum’s permanent collection, exhibitions, and history.
‘Fiddler on the Roof’ stops in Toledo
TOLEDO – Theater League presents “Fiddler on the Roof” at the Stranahan Theater Oct. 17–20.

“Fiddler on the Roof” is directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher (“South Pacific,” “The King and I”);
choreographed by the acclaimed Israeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter; inspired by the original
choreography of Jerome Robbins; and has musical direction by Ted Sperling.
“Fiddler on the Roof” is the story of fathers and daughters, husbands and wives, and life, love and
laughter. This classic musical is rich with Broadway hits, including “To Life (L’Chaim!),” “If I Were A
Rich Man,” “Sunrise Sunset,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” and “Tradition.”
Music in the Parlor performance set for Oct. 20 has women’s theme
FREMONT – In celebration of women’s history and the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, Music in the
Parlor will feature two female singers performing songs focusing significant eras in women’s history on
Oct. 20 in the historic Hayes Home.
Kyleigh Lash and Joan Eckermann will sing songs from the late 19th century through the 1940s to coincide
with the eras of the women featured in the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums’ “Women of
Spiegel Grove” exhibit and “Finding Her Voice” program. Lash and Eckermann will be accompanied by
pianist Dennis Pita.
The concert is from 4-5 p.m. in the large parlor of the Hayes Home, which is the same area where
President Rutherford and First Lady Lucy Hayes entertained guests. Reservations are required and cost
$12.

Eckermann is the special events and volunteer coordinator and weekend manager at the Hayes site. She has
a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in vocal performance from Bowling Green
State University. She has been an adjunct professor of voice at Terra State Community College since
2005.
Eckermann served as education and outreach coordinator at Toledo Opera from 1989-2004. She has performed
as a concert soloist with the Perrysburg Symphony, BGSU Philharmonia, Art Fair Song Fest in Ann Arbor,
Michigan and Terra State Community College Choral Society.
Lash is the program and events coordinator at the Chamber of Commerce of Sandusky County. She is a
graduate of Terra State Community College with an associate’s degree in hospitality management. When she
is not working, she volunteers on stage at the Ritz Theatre in Tiffin and at the Fremont Community
Theatre as an actress, assistant director and adviser for the teen theatre program.
Pita, originally from Rhode Island, is the director of choral music at Fremont Ross High School. He also
taught in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He has a bachelor’s degree in music from Berklee College of
Music in Boston and a master’s degree in education from University of Findlay.
Create a glass pumpkin at the museum
TOLEDO – During the month of October, Toledo Museum of Art visitors can make a glass pumpkin in the Glass
Pavilion Hot Shop under the guidance of a museum instructor.
The hour-long pumpkin glass art workshops are held Fridays at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. and Saturdays at noon and 4
p.m. The cost $30 for members and $40 for nonmembers. Adults and children 14 years and older who are
accompanied by an adult are eligible to participate.
Visitors can sign up for a Pick Your Project workshop and select from a variety of objects including an
apple, mushroom, flower, donut, fortune cookie, ornament or paperweight.
The Pick Your Project glass art workshops cost $42 for museum members and $52 for nonmembers and take
place most Thursdays evenings from 6:30-8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons from 3-4:30 p.m.
