Toledo officials scale back testing of drinking water

TOLEDO (AP) – Toledo is scaling back testing of its drinking water because the threat of contamination
from algae on Lake Erie is over.
Ohio’s fourth-largest city had been testing its water every other day since toxins fouled the water
supply in early August.
City leaders say they now will test the water three times per week. They also said on Wednesday that it’s
no longer necessary for residents to conserve water.
Cooler weather means the harmful algae blooms on Lake Erie are no longer a threat for now.
Toxins left behind from algae fouled the water for more than 400,000 people in the Toledo area and
southeastern Michigan for two days in early August.
