Falcons women fall Saturday

LOS ANGELES — Bowling Green State University’s women’s basketball team saw a second-half lead dissipate
in the final minutes as Loyola Marymount picked up a 51-48 win over the Falcons in the championship game
of the DoubleTree LA Westside Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday.
Bowling Green held a 42-31 lead with midway through the second half, but the Lions stormed back, tying
the game at 48-48 with 1:44 to play.
Erica Donovan missed a 3-pointer, and after Deborah Hoekstra’s offensive rebound Donovan missed a runner.
The Falcons fouled with 50.3 seconds left and Loyola’s Deanna Johnson hit both free throws for a 50-48
lead.
“This was a game where I think we got better,” Bowling Green coach Jennifer Roos said. “We were able to
string together some consecutive minutes of consistent play on the road in a tournament championship
game. But we had a five-to-seven-minute lapse in the second half where we struggled to score points.”

Freshman Haley Puk had a 3-point try hit the back of the rim in the final seconds. Donovan grabbed the
rebound as time expired.
Donovan led the Falcons (3-2) with 14 points and nine rebounds. Rachel Myers and Jasmine Matthews added
eight points each. Bowling Green was 20-of-49 from the field.
“We had a chance to finish out that game,” Roos said. “I’m happy that we put ourselves in a position to
win. We had a shot to tie the game at the buzzer that didn’t go, we had a layup with a chance to take
the lead with a minute left that didn’t go. We executed well for the majority of the game, but just
couldn’t close the deal tonight.
