Board approves contract for Help Me Grow services in Wood County

The WSOS Board of Directors approved submitting a proposal for $9,619 to the Wood County United Way to
provide Help Me Grow services to 75 Wood County families. The services will be for 100 play groups where
parents will learn about child development, improve their parenting confidence and connect with other
parents.
The board also approved entering into a contract for $24,162 with the Minnesota Housing Partnership to
assist Wisconsin to develop policies and guidelines for its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
Economic Development program.
A proposal to the U.S. Department of State for $100,000 to develop the use of social media to mobilize
volunteers in small rural communities in the U.S. and Russia also earned board approval. Social media
will be used to recruit, train and retain volunteers to assist with various projects in small
communities.
In other business, the board:
• Approved the renewal of 18 grants and contracts for programs currently operated by the organization
• Seated new board member Ronald Andes representing Wood County. Andes replaces Al Fosnaugh who resigned
in May.
• Authorized the start up of the 2014-15 People Helping People annual fund-raising campaign
• Approved a special recognition in Memory of Carl "Gene" Carson who died recently. Carson was
a dedicated volunteer at the senior center in Fremont for many years.
