WESTON – New trucks will be soon rolling into Weston.
On Monday night, members of the village’s council heard about two different trucks which are being
replaced.
Weston’s fire chief, Randy Tolles, informed council that Weston Township has approved the purchase of a
new pumper truck for the department. It will arrive next year.
Also the council approved purchasing a 2012 Chevrolet Colorado for the maintenance department. It will be
used for mosquito spraying as well as other work around the village. It could also be used if council
members needed to carpool to travel to a meeting. The cost is $16,100.
The current truck, a Chevrolet S10, is 14 years old and showing its age. However, the truck will be
offered to the Cemetery Board for its use in the Weston Cemetery if the board wants it.
Speaking of the cemetery, the council had its first reading to place a 1.9 mill renewal levy on
November’s ballot for cemetery operations.
Although not requiring council approval, the members were informed of the intent to replace the room,
three doors and windows on the Village Hall. The improvements are needed and will improve energy
efficiency.
Two new members were approved for the Recreation Board, Jennifer Tobal and David Mendieta. Though
approved they will need to be sworn in.
The street committee has set a 5 p.m. meeting on Wednesday to discuss which streets need to be repaved.
