Library levy needed to maintain current services

To the Editor:
I’ve always loved reading. When I was a child my parents had few books in the home but took us to the
library every week and I took out as many books as allowed.
I still love the library for books, although I don’t load up every week now since we do have books in our
home.
I suspect most people think books when they think of the library. But there are so many other things the
library does.
-The library has fabulous programs for children-I wish my daughter was growing up now and could
participate.
-The library has computers and internet access. Now that many job applications are required to be
submitted on-line, and unemployed persons are required to receive job listings by email, the library is
an invaluable resource for those who lack internet access at home.
-The library subscribes to services such as Ancestry.com so that patrons can use those services for free
in the library. The library also subscribes to ValueLine for investment information which can be
accessed for free from home and in the library.
-The library has a growing collection of e-books which can be borrowed on a variety of devices. I’ve been
delighted to borrow e-books when I’m travelling-all one needs is internet access. The library also
subscribes to Hoopla, which provides free music, movies, and audiobooks. Library staff are more than
willing to help individuals set up their devices to use these services.
-The library has an extensive local history collection.
-The library coordinates Community Reads which brings together people to read a common book each year.

-The library meeting rooms are used by many different people in the community for classes, meetings,
concerts and social gatherings.
-The library is a welcoming, safe place for everyone. The library staff provides personal service, from
help filling out a job application to help finding a book for a trip or books for a homebound child to
help printing a map for a trip.
The library levy is essential to maintaining these and other services at their current levels. I feel the
library gives great value for the tax dollar. I urge you to join me in voting yes for the renewal levy
for the library.
