Infant remains are 40 years old

CANTON, Ohio (AP) — The infant remains found in a foot locker at a dead Ohio woman’s home last year have
been determined to be those of two of her children — likely twins — who died at least 40 years ago.
That’s the assessment of forensic anthropologists at the University of North Texas who studied the
remains after they were discovered in a foot locker in the home of 66-year-old
Judith Shumar after her death from natural causes in November.
Investigators say the skeletons showed no signs of trauma, so the cause and circumstances of their deaths
may never be known. There was no way to tell if the infants were stillborn or born alive.
Shumar’s adult son discovered the remains while cleaning out her mobile home in north Canton on Dec. 9.
