The Elmwood FFA chapter has captured the Career Development Event state championship.
On Friday the Agricultural Technology and Mechanical Systems team (formerly Ag. Engineering) won the
state event at Ohio State University. All four team members ranked in the top 10 individually.
The team was led by Jay Graham, who captured high individual honors. He was followed closely by Jack
Hagemeyer in second in Ohio; Mitch Beaverson in sixth and Garrett Benschoter in ninth.
The finals portion of the event consisted of 10 teams and 40 individuals which had to previously qualify
last spring. In the event, contestants completed four different stations which addressed a variety of
areas related to Ag. Engineering.  Specifically the stations were calibrating a planter and performing
maintenance on it, completing an arc welding activity using a stick welder, using Ag. Leader’s software
for soil and fertility management, and completing a team activity consisting of the assembly of an
aquaponics setup
The team will now represent Ohio in the national contest which will take place during the National FFA
convention in Louisville, Kentucky.
