Alvin "Al" L. Slater

Alvin "Al" L. Slater, 83, of Pemberville, OH, passed on Monday, September 8, 2014.
He was born in Cleveland, OH on February 24, 1931 to Alfred D. and Louise M. Slater. He married the love
of his life, Mary Evans on September 20, 1969. They spent 45 years together until Mary passed on August
22, 2014. After 17 days apart they were reunited for eternity.
Al was active in the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Maumee, OH. He cherished his faith and
friendships within the church.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, U.S. Army and U. S. Merchant Marine
Corps. Al volunteered on the S.S. Willis B. Boyer Maritime Museum in Toledo.
He graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art and was a Commercial Designer.
Al enjoyed being outdoors and loved all animals, especially his dogs and two mules, Bertie and Maude.
Al is survived by his brother, Geri (Leila) Slater of Painesville, OH; many nephews and nieces including
Mike, Jeff and Laura.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Services for Al will be private.
Interment will take place at Fort Meigs Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Witzler Shank Funeral Home, 222 E.S. Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH
(419-874-3133).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to First Church of Christ, Scientist, 228 E. Dudley
St., Maumee, OH 43537; or to the Toledo Area Humane Society, 1920 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee, OH 43537.
