Waterville Bridge has overnight closure
WATERVILLE — On Friday at 7 p.m., the Waterville Bridge will close overnight, reopening Saturday morning,
according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Bridge replacement work is continuing and scheduled through September 2020.
Lead service waterlines replaced
The Northwestern Water and Sewer District announced the final lead service line was replaced in
Northwood.
In December, the district began work on a $900,000 project to remove over 300 identified lead service
lines throughout the service area. The areas identified with lead service lines were all located
primarily in Rossford and Northwood.
“This is great improvement for the district’s water infrastructure in the communities of Northwood and
Rossford,” said district board Chairman Mark Schaffer.
While the lead service lines have been replaced, crews will continue to work on restoration work
including concrete and asphalt road repair, landscaping and meter pit replacement.
Government food distribution is Friday
The government food distribution and senior food box program will be Friday from 10-11:30 a.m. at First
United Methodist Church, 1526 E. Wooster St.
Free fresh produce and food will be available in limited quantities. Bring a cart or wagon if you have
one. A picture ID and phone number are required for new applicants.
This is for anyone in Wood County who meets the income guidelines or who has recently lost their job.
Contact the church for more information at 419-353-0682.
SeaGate Food Bank also is present at the same time to handout senior boxes to those who meet their
program eligibility requirements.
Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is May 11
The National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will be held May 11.
To participate, leave a nonperishable food donation in a bag by the mailbox on May 11, before mail
delivery, and the letter carrier will do the rest.
On the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food donations
from customers. The donations collected locally go directly to food pantries in Bowling Green to provide
food to people who need help.
Last year, 71.6 million pounds of food was collected nationally. Over the course of its 26-year history,
the drive has collected 1.67 billion pounds of food.
Almost 50 million Americans—1 in 6—are unsure where their next meal is coming from. Among them are
millions of children, senior citizens and military veterans.
The food drive’s timing is crucial, according to a press release. Food banks and pantries typically
receive the bulk of their donations during the winter holiday season. By springtime, many pantries are
depleted, entering the summer low on supplies at a time when many school meal programs are not available
to children in need.
