Fatal crash reported in Perrysburg Twp.
Perrysburg Township Police are investigating whether a fatal crash Wednesday was intentional.
A 59-year-old man from Columbus crashed his car into a telephone pole on Lime City Road after being
pursued by police for four minutes. Police are not releasing the name, pending notification of family.

Lt. Matt Gazarek said the incident start at 3:09 p.m. on U.S. 20 at Thompson Road when police ran the
plates of the vehicle and learned the operator was driving under suspension.
The driver sped off when the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, Gazarek said. Despite social media
posts to the contrary, the chase never reached speeds above 60 miles per hour.
“It was very short,” he said. “It was not a high-speed chase.”
The man was apparently drinking during the chase, he added.
The chase continued eastbound on Route 20 to southbound Lime City Road, with the driver veering off the
road several times. He then veered off the road again and struck the phone pole just north of Roachton
Road without attempted to straighten the car, leading officers to believe it was an intentional act.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected out the driver’s side window, Gazarek
said. Alcohol is suspected in the crash.
