The former Milton Township fire chief received a ceremonial send-off after his funeral last week.
Larry K. “Butch” Trumbull, who died April 2, was saluted by almost 20 vehicles after his funeral on April
8 and by 130 firefighters during visitation the evening before during “A Fireman’s Last Alarm” service
at Dunn Funeral Home.
“I’ll tell you everyone got involved,” said Tim Schroeder, assistant chief of Weston EMS. “It was just a
good gesture for everyone.”
Trumbull served on the Milton Center Town Council, was the former Milton Township Fire Chief, a lifetime
member of the Milton Township Fire Department, was a member of the Milton Township Fire Board and the
Wood County Firefighters Association.
Several local fire departments took part in the procession down Wooster Street.
Schroeder said that the firefighters are close.
“We share manpower all the time,” he said. “In Wood County, for the county size, we have one of the most
volunteer fire departments in the state, with 26 departments.”
In addition to his firefighter duties, Schroeder said that Trumbull also worked for a company that sold
fire equipment and fire trucks and was well known across Northwest Ohio.
Schroeder said that the goodwill spread across the Bowling Green community during the funeral.
Funeral director Tim Dunn was circulating among the firefighters, making sure they knew the procession
details.
Bowling Green City Schools sent a bus to take firefighters to their trucks, which were parked down East
Wooster Street. Some were also waiting at the Bowling Green Fire Division Pearl Street station, where a
city aerial truck and one from Perrysburg Township had an American flag tied in between them.
The BGFD also covered some of the Weston area so all of the firefighters could attend the service.
Schroeder said that the Center Township and Deshler fire departments also assisted with coverage.
