Students honored for Positive Start

(Editor’s note: This is the fourth of a four-day listing of Bowling Green middle school
students who were honored.)

The Bowling Green Exchange Club again is recognizing area youth for the good things they’ve accomplished
this past year, in and out of the classroom.
The Exchange Club’s Positive Start program asks teachers to honor students who have done something
positive.
Students must live in the Bowling Green school district and be in grades seven or eight. The purpose is
to honor students who have achieved “to the best of their abilities” to improve the school and community
settings.
A luncheon will be held Tuesday at Stone Ridge Golf Club to honor all 79 students who represent Bowling
Green Middle School, St. Aloysius Catholic School, Montessori School of Bowling Green and Bowling Green
Christian Academy.
Bowling Green Middle School – Grade 8
Bennett Staneart – Extremely personable with a strong work ethic is how his
teachers describe Bennett. He leads by example and works hard to do his best in all things. He is a
member of the football and wrestling teams and is an overall team player.
Alex Stutzman – Technology is Alex’s passion. In his first year at BGMS, he
has added knowledgeable insight about technology in his classes. He is a positive asset to the
classroom. His teachers are proud of his transition to BGMS.
Savanna Tipton – Eighth grade is Savanna’s year. She has made it a priority
to work hard and try her absolute best in all that she does. She has been persistent and has seen her
grades go up. She is an independent learner and a strong advocate for herself.
Ayla Weinandy – Ayla has a true love for the arts. She participates in band,
choir, and 3D art and helped organize the talent show. She is described as creative, thoughtful and
hardworking. She is positive, polite and friendly to all, looking out for other students along the way.

Savannah Williams – Savannah is actively involved in her church and goes on
mission trips during her summers. She is wonderfully kind to all of her peers. She is involved in choir
and Honors choir. She works hard and maintains good grades.
Bowling Green Christian Academy

Allison Long – Allison is a natural, gifted leader. She wants to do well and
is not afraid to ask for help. She is the middle school chaplain in student council and helps to
organize weekly chapel services. She sings in the NWO Children’s Choir and plays in the Academy Band at
BGSU. She is a leader on her school volleyball and basketball teams.
Ethan Brito – Ethan has made great strides in junior high. While
demonstrating his science fair project in front of parents, classmates and the elementary students, he
did so with improved confidence, speaking ability and engaged the younger crowds as a role model.
Jenna Magrum – Jenna is the president of the student council. She excels in
planning middle school activities, problem-solving issues and leading the middle school in positive
ways. She has a positive attitude and makes other students feel special. She participates in school
sports, the worship team and she maintains good grades. She does all of this with a smile and has earned
the respect of her classmates and teachers.
Sam Hise – Same strives to do well. He gets along well with all students and
teachers. He is a leader on the quiz bowl team and participated in the science fair just to gain a
better understanding of science.
Montessori School of Bowling Green

Jeannette Fretter – Jeannette is a positive influence at her school. An
eighth-grader, she leads her Peace Pal group, which teaches students conflict resolution. She gives
lessons to younger students and reads to the kindergartners. She is confident and has risen to the task
of being a role model for others.
St. Aloysius Catholic School
Emily Castillo – Emily is a top honors student. She is the student council
president, an office helper and a peer tutor. She is an altar server for St. Al’s. She takes great pride
in her work and sees the beauty in all things. She is a leader who takes initiative, is organized and is
a friend to all.
Aaron Clemens – Aaron is described as a highly successful student that takes
initiative and always gives his best effort. He has earned academic honors and has qualified for the
district science fair competition. He is a good friend to all, is caring and acts with integrity. He
also plays on the BGMS basketball team.
Joseph Boyle – Joey has a big heart and will always lend a helping hand. He
is an altar server for St. Al’s, is a member of the band and participates in CYO basketball and track.
He has a great sense of humor and knows how to persevere through tough situations.
Anna Deutschman – Anna is a lover of the arts. She is a talented artist and
has received much attention and awards for her artwork. She participates in drama club and choir/music.
She receives high marks as a role model for academics and behavior at school. She is a loyal friend.
Carly Hiser – Carly shares her talents in the arts with her peers. She is
part of the choir, art and drama clubs. She helps as an office aide and sings during school masses. She
also participates in CYO volleyball and basketball while playing travel soccer for her local team.
Alex Lewis – Alex competes on the school’s quiz bowl team, is the treasurer
of the student council and is a school office aide. He is a talented percussionist for the band and
helps younger students perform at school masses. He also plays CYO basketball, track and cross-country.

Celia Miller – Celia is a dedicated honor student. She is the secretary of
the student council and volunteers as an office aide. She excels at organization and leadership in
developing school-wide programs. She qualified for the University of Toledo district science fair and is
a member of the CYO volleyball team.
Mackenzie Holman – Mackenzie is described as kind-hearted and a great role
model for friends and younger students. She is an honor student, a member of the student council and an
office aide. She plays on the CYO cross country, volleyball and basketball teams. She qualified for the
University of Toledo district science fair.
Brody George – Brody holds the vice president position on the student
council. He is an honor student who is quick to help others with their classwork, when needed. He is a
member of the CYO basketball team and plays travel soccer. He qualified for the University of Toledo
district science fair, along with some of his classmates.
Shania Celis – Shania has a positive personality and a smile that brightens
up the day. She is a member of the student council and in the school office as an aide. She likes to
help in her classroom and with the younger students in school. She is a member of the CYO basketball
team.
