Lake Twp. Trustees approve hauling permit

MILLBURY — A special hauling permit approved recently by the Lake Township Trustees shouldn’t mean major
changes.
“These provisions will be invoked on a case by case basis,” said Police Chief Mark Hummer, who is also
the township administrator.
The resolution, which was passed at the April 2 meeting, requires that local authorities with respect to
highways under their jurisdiction, upon application in writing, shall issue a special regional heavy
hauling permit. It authorizes the applicant to operate or move a vehicle or combination of vehicles that
are overweight.
Applications must be submitted to the township at least 48 hours prior to use of township roads. The
township may authorize the Wood County Engineer’s Office to receive and issue special hauling permits.

“This will give us some tracking and ability to limit and or keep track of those extraordinary (cases)
traveling our roads,” Hummer said.
“They’re not after the farmers,” said Trustee Ken Gilsdorf.
Trustee Richard Welling said the township has been burned in the past by overweight vehicles ruining the
roads.
In other business, Hummer said that a complaint against Woodville Road Nursery has led to the township
sending the business a letter “regarding shortcomings in the the buffer zone.”
He said he has spoken to Linda Holmes, with the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office and the township’s legal
counsel, who is going to write the letter.
“I have not been copied on that letter so I cannot comment on it because it is possibly pending
litigation,” Hummer said.
By a 2-1 vote, the trustees in May approved the rezoning of the property across from the nursery, which
is being used to store leaves.
The Bailey Road neighbors have complained repeatedly about the too-small buffer, noise and the smell.
Also at the meeting, the trustees:
• Approved spending $147,066 on a new truck with a snow and ice package. The 2020 Freightliner 108 SD
tandem truck with 14-feet stainless snow and ice package will be purchased through the Ohio state
cooperative from Valley Freightliner, Toledo. Hummer said that this is a budgeted expense, replacing a
25-year-old truck.
• Decided to buy zoning office software for $6,000 from IWorq Zoning. According to Jamie Stanley, zoning
inspector, the new software will electronically track the zoning activities to allow for better
monitoring of compliance and more efficient execution of the her duties. The company serves 1,400
communities, including the Wood County Planning Commission and Perrysburg Township.
• Authorized the purchase of a Dell 3060 desktop workstation computer from Biz Tech for $1,175. It is for
the zoning department.
• Hired Mike Lord as a part-time EMS employee at $12.11 per hour.
• Accepted the resignations of part-time EMS employees William Hartford and Wendy Waisner.
