PERRYSBURG — Perrysburg Schools Foundation will host Mike, Joey and Daisy from the cast of the regional
Emmy award-winning children’s television series “Abracadabra” for a performance on April 11 from 6-7:30
p.m. at Hull Prairie Intermediate School, 25480 Hull Prairie Road.
The series is hosted by ventriloquist/magician Mike Adelman, the president emeritus of the West Virginia
School of Osteopathic Medicine. Adelman practiced medicine in Toledo for many years before going into
the academic field. During his time in Toledo, Adelman also hosted a local version of “Abracadabra.”
“The present version of ‘Abracadabra’ is a lot different than the old local show,” said the producer of
the series, Marilea Butcher. “In the current series, we use ventriloquism and magic as a ‘hook’ to get
our audience’s attention and then we can deliver messages about health, nutrition, exercise, safety and
science.”
The “Abracadabra” television series was developed to impact the health of its audience through innovative
programming that captures the attention of children and their parents and caregivers. Making learning
fun is the objective, with the goal of ensuring appropriate, age-specific nutrition education is
delivered to school-age children throughout the country. The series also delivers other important
educational concepts on topics such as cyber safety and bullying.
“Abracadabra” features all original songs, which help to reinforce the messages being delivered. Jeff
Kerscher, who lives and practices law in Perrysburg, writes and produces all the songs.
“We are excited to welcome Abracadabra here,” said Jeff Abke, director of development for Perrysburg
Schools/Perrysburg Schools Foundation. “Health and safety for our students is a top priority for us, and
to have this opportunity to bring those messages here in a fun and engaging way is great. It is also
neat to highlight the local ties to this EMMY-recognized show.”
The event is free and open to the public. The target audience for Abracadabra is elementary-aged
students, but the message will resonate to an audience of a wide age range. Register for the event by
emailing Marissa Dombrowsky at [email protected] or calling 419-874-9131 ext. 2158 with
name and number of people in the group.
“Abracadabra” airs on WGTE PBS in Toledo every Monday at 5 p.m.
