Don’t miss Macy’s talk in BG

To the Editor:
The Wood County District Public Library Foundation is pleased to announce the initial author presentation
in its newly created Foundation Series, which will bring prominent authors and well-known speakers to
our community.
Beth Macy, an award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author, is coming to Bowling Green
on April 1 to talk about her latest book, “Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and The Drug Company That
Addicted America.” Her presentation will be at 7 p.m. in the Bowling Green High School Performing Arts
Center. Free tickets and details are available at https://www.wcdpl.org/Foundation_Series
Macy, a Bowling Green State University graduate, has spent more than two decades reporting on the drug
issue for the Roanoke (Va) Times. Her book reveals how the drug crisis unfolded, from the drug company
marketers who misrepresented opioids as non-addictive and doctors who overprescribed them, to the
personal stories of careers, loved ones and lives lost to addiction. She’ll talk about what she’s
learned and what she now thinks should be done.
Her presentation is particularly relevant and timely in Ohio, which, according to the National Institute
on Drug Abuse, is among the top five states with the highest rates of opioid-related overdose deaths.

The Friends of the Library will have books for purchase and Macy will be available to sign them following
her talk.
We encourage everyone to attend this important presentation on one of today’s greatest threats to
individuals and families and to America.
