Don’t miss opportunity to see ‘Dopesick’ author

To the Editor:
Among the hardest things I’ve ever done was to quit smoking cigarettes yet, like many others, I had
little empathy for those struggling to overcome drug addiction. That has changed since I read Beth
Macy’s book “Dopesick,” a New York Times bestseller about the opioid crisis in America.
In her book the BGSU grad traces how the drug crisis evolved, from drug company marketing teams
misrepresenting opioids as non-addictive and doctors over-prescribing them, to the personal stories of
families ruined; careers, lives and loved ones lost.
Macy will be in Bowling Green on April 1 to discuss “Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company
That Addicted America.” I encourage everyone to use the opportunity to hear what this award-winning
writer has learned through her years of reporting on the drug situation and what she now thinks could be
done to combat this national health issue.
The presentation is the first program in a new series presented by the Wood County District Public
Library Foundation. Visit the library’s website at https://www.wcdpl.org for more information and free
tickets.
