Apply for Buckeye Boys State
LUCKEY — Troy-Webster American Legion Post 240 is looking for interested high school male students from
Wood County to attend Buckeye Boys State, which will be held June 9-16 at Miami University in Oxford.

Buckeye Boys State is a highly structured, hands-on workshop on Ohio government. Candidates are required
to attend all eight days of the program.
Interested students must have completed the 11th grade in 2019 in a public or private school, or be home
schooled, with at least one semester left prior to graduation. Candidates must believe in U.S.
citizenship and the ideals of “God and country” on which the American Legion were founded. Candidates
must be residents of Wood County, citizens of the U.S., and possess qualities of leadership, scholastic
achievement, good citizenship and a willingness to participate.

No tutoring during BGSU spring break
There will be no free homework help and tutoring from March 18-22 with America Reads Tutors from Bowling
Green State University’s Martha Gesling Weber Reading Center.
Free tutoring will resume on March 25 in the Children’s Place Quiet Study Room of the Wood County

Homeschoolers’ Afternoon Adventures: The Seasons
PERRYSBURG — With the Spring Equinox days away, homeschoolers ages 5-7 are invited to explore the seasons
at Way Public Library, 101 E. Indiana Ave., on Monday from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
There will be crafts and stories to highlight memorable features of each season.
Make a Help Me Grow playdate
Parents and caregivers with young children are invited to the March Help Me Grow playdate at the
Children’s Place of the Wood County District Public Library, 251 N. Main St., on Monday from 10-11 a.m.
This session, open to everyone, offers stories, playtime, crafts, and community support resources. For

Eat pizza, read pages
The middle school book group Pizza and Pages will meet on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Bowling Green
Middle School’s Media Center.
Pizza and Pages is a partnership between Bowling Green City Schools and the Wood County District Public
Library and is open to all area sixth-graders to eighth-graders.
The Children’s Place of the library has multiple copies of the pre-selected books available to check out.
This March, the theme is mysteries. Youth can choose one or more of the following titles: “Book
Scavenger” by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman, “York: The Shadow Cipher” by Laura Ruby or “Murder is Bad
Manners” by Robin Stevens.
“Book Scavenger” is the story of 12-year-old Emily, who moves to San Francisco with her family, where she
teams up with new friend James to follow clues in an odd book they find, hoping to figure out its
secrets before the men who attacked Emily’s hero, publisher Garrison Griswold, solve the mystery or come
after the friends.
“York: The Shadow Cipher” is the story of three kids in an alternate New York City who try to solve a
modern-world puzzle and complete a treasure hunt laid into the streets and buildings of New York City
before their building is demolished and the clues it contains are lost forever.
“Murder is Bad Manners” is the story of crime-solving friends Hazel Wong and Daisy Wells at an English
boarding school in the 1930s, who struggle to find an exciting mystery to investigate until Hazel
discovers the dead body of Miss Bell, the science teacher.
The discussion with staff from BGMS and WCDPL will include any or all of these titles, along with pizza
snacks.

Watch ‘Sandlot’ at Way
PERRYSBURG — Calling all sports fans to the Way Public Library, 101 E. Indiana Ave., on March 21 at 4:15
p.m.
Children ages 8-12 will watch the film “The Sandlot,” rated PG. Refreshments will be provided.
Beginning dance program starts
A My First Recital program is starting next month at Julie’s Dance Studio, 1234 N. Main St. in the
Woodland Mall.
Explore dance through a blend of fun and creative songs with pre-ballet movement.
The class beings on April 2 from 5-5:30 p.m. and includes the Star Style 2019 recital on June 8. The cost
is $125 and includes a costume.
Movin’ Movie Magic is set for June 11-13. The classes include jazz, ballet and lyrical.

Teddy Bear Care Fair stuffed with fun
TOLEDO — The Toledo Zoo invites visitors to bring their favorite stuffed pal to Teddy Bear Care Fair on
March 23 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Zoo volunteers will provide check-ups and cosmetic repairs in the workshop
at Nature’s Neighborhood.
This year the focus is on the health, care and activities of numerous bear species, including polar,
grizzly, Kodiak and Andean .
Visitors can also pose questions to animal keepers and veterinary staff, experience the zoo’s animal care
through animal feeds and demonstrations, enjoy puppet shows, interact with divers in the Aquarium, and
