Fair proceeds minus headliner

There will be no headlining concert act at this year’s Wood County Fair.
On Aug. 2, Diamond J. Rodeo will appear in the grandstand area and on Aug. 3 Top Notch Motor Sports
Promotions will hold its monster truck show.
The fair board heard about these events at February’s meeting.
This year’s monster truck show will feature seven different trucks.
The fair will conclude with the traditional demolition derby on the fair’s final day, Aug. 5.
The traditional combine demolition derby, along with the lawn mower derby and the Power Wheels derby for
children, will again be held on Sunday of fair week, which is Aug. 4.
KOI Drag Racing will also return to the fair, along with the horse, pony and mule pulls, the draft horse
hitch show, the catch-a-pig event, cheerleading, Quilt Day, and Dennis Beach and his chainsaw carving.

There will also be the usual exhibits of 4-H projects including livestock, baking, needlepoint,
photography, fine arts, along with the shows related to all the eight species of animals which are
shown.
Children age 5 and under, who attend grandstand entertainment with a parent, will not need a ticket, the
board decided.
In other business, fair board members learned that the organization is talking with Amplex regarding a
proposal to update the Wi-Fi on the fairgrounds for purposes of entries and processing the sales. That
deal could also involving partnering with the upgrade being discussed by Amplex with the National
Tractor Pullers Association.
The grounds committee sought and was approved for three quotes for projects to be completed totaling
$5,906. Those projects include a new roof for the rabbit barn and upgrades to the horse barn restrooms.

The board also approved $160 for new seats for its Gator.
The board also announced it is looking for someone who might be interested in operating the Foundation
Cafe year round. One group had expressed interest in such an operation prior to the board deciding how
they wished to handle that building moving forward.
Similar buildings at other fairgrounds have been taken on as fundraising projects for church or other
civic groups.
There was also some discussion about opening up some primitive camping spots for the fair.
The board also approved moving up the “small animal” livestock sale to 1 p.m. to allow more time for
other events which follow.
The now annual Fall Camping Event will be held Oct. 4-6 this year.
The next meeting is set for March 28 at 7 p.m.
