BG Burgers to feature nostalgic subs

After roughly 10 years without a DiBenedetto’s sub, the sandwich is coming back to Bowling Green.
Christopher and Lisa Kline, owners of BG Burgers, are collaborating with Ramona and Ralph DiBenedetto to
bring back the iconic subs. The Klines made the announcement on their Facebook page and the word has
spread far and wide very quickly.
“This is a legitimate collaboration,” Christopher Kline said. “We will be using the same bread, the same
meats, the same sauces, the same container. Everything will be nostalgically the same.”
Beyond just the DiBenedetto name, the burger restaurant is getting the actual DiBenedetto family.
“Ralph will be right there on the line making that first sub. Ramona will also be around to help out,”
Kline said.
He added that despite their retirement, Ralph is looking forward to returning to help operate the sub
line and get back to the sub business and will be working at BG Burgers.
Interestingly, the store is next door to the former DiBenedetto’s site on West Wooster years ago.
“When we posted the news on our Facebook, it just went crazy,” Kline said. “I was totally blown away. It
is awesome, I’m ready for it.”
He said one of the responses on Facebook called this “the biggest news in Bowling Green in 10 years
because they have been gone for 10 years,” according to Kline
No firm date has been set, but Kline expects to be serving the iconic subs within 10 days to two weeks.

In addition to most of the same subs, they will also be serving the Greek salad and other menu items from
a decade ago.
“It has to stay the same. If it wasn’t going to be the same, it wasn’t going to happen,” Kline said of
his plans as well as the agreement with the DiBenedettos.
They will be using local food as much as possible as they do currently. Kline said his burgers are made
with Belleville meats.
One thing that will change for the subs, is they will have only one size, rather than having a large
12-inch and a small 6-inch. All the subs will be a standard 8-inch size. They will also be using a
smoked mozzarella cheese that Kline loves and had to be special ordered by their supplier.
For those not familiar with Kline and his wife, the couple bought the business last November and opened
their doors on Dec. 14.
Kline has extensive experience in food service and said this store was his 10th store opening in his
career. He has worked for Texas Road House and the Cheesecake Factory.
Speaking of the Cheesecake Factory, Kline reached an agreement to sell their cheesecakes at BG Burgers,
one of only two restaurants in the area to serve the popular dessert. They will serve four varieties of
the cheesecakes.
Kline is also proud of the taste of the burgers, in part because of quality of meats, but also by his
original pepper seasoning mix including a secret ingredient.
“My pepper mix is absolutely fantastic and gives a great flavor to the burgers,” Kline said.
Bowling Green State University students were on winter break when they opened in December, but Kline
said, “We started like gangbusters with no publicity or advertising outside of our Facebook page. There
were no students and we still got 70 five-star reviews.”
Also on the menu is a panini, jumbo chicken wings and other “great appetizers.”
He also noted his Cuban sandwiches, which what he said are “true Cuban” sandwiches because of the way the
pork is prepared.
When preparing to open Kline said his health department inspection was approved with no recommendations
nor problems to fix.
“That usually doesn’t happen, but I am big on details.”
A ribbon cutting is slated for 11 a.m. on Feb. 20 by the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce.
