Asmus praised for Day of Prayer work

To the Editor:
Thank you Rev. Kristel Asmus for your truly steadfast and encouraging work in organizing the National Day
of Prayer and over its 20-year span.
Many people have helped. Many have taken part yearly. You’ve followed its purpose in praying to God, the
Father, through Jesus Christ, our Savior for all elected officials (local, state and national) and
petitioning God for their protection, strength and wisdom.
Let’s hope you may continue this service on that special day in 2019.
There is talk of others planning a different way and meeting in a different place, and perhaps their so
called theory of “inclusion” will meet their purpose.
Words from author Rueben P. Job, for Upper Room publications sums up my feelings on this subject:
“In our better moments we know that it makes little difference what others may think of us. We know deep
within our hearts that pleasing God is far more important than pleasing those around us. And yet risking
our reputation for God is difficult for us. It is easy to remain silent and hidden when my colleagues
make decisions based on cultural norms rather than in the way of Christ. I don’t like being called ‘too
spiritual’ or ‘unrealistic’ and so l’m tempted to remain silent when I should speak a clear and simple
word of faith. ‘Yes, I am Yours. Help me live that way.’”
(A Guide to Prayer for All who walk with God, p. 39)
May we as Christians, awaken from our apathy and be there on National Day of Prayer.
