Submit poetry and lyrics for contest at Rossford library

ROSSFORD — The library here is holding a 2017 Teen Poetry & Lyric Contest in honor of National
Poetry Month, which is April.
The contest is open to all teens in grades seven-12. The contest ends April 28. Entries can be mailed,
collected by teachers and sent in school delivery, or handed in at the library.
The first place prize is $40, second place is $20 and third place is $10.
The rules:
• Entries must be original and unpublished.
• Students should tell teachers if they are submitting entries. Extra credit may be awarded.
• Keep work neat. Submissions can be typed or handwritten as long as it is legible.
• All submissions must have appropriate language, dialogue and situations.
• Name, phone number, school and grade must appear at the top of all submissions. Have a separate page
for each submission.
• A limit of three poems and song lyrics can be submitted, altogether not to exceed three pages. (e.g.
whether it is one poem or three, the limit is still three pages per participant).
• Prizes will be awarded for first-third places for junior high and high school.
• Late submissions will be disqualified. Work must be received in the library, 720 Dixie Highway., by
April 28 at 5 p.m.
• First-third place entries will be published in the Rossford Record Journal.
• Winners will be announced and awarded the week of May 1.
• Winners are asked to read their poetry at the library on May 8 at 6 p.m., where they will also be
awarded their prizes. Family and friends are invited to attend. Any other writers may also read their
poetry regardless of whether they have placed or not. Contact the teen librarian to participate.
