Area students recognized for Positive Start

(Editor’s note: This is the fourth of a four-day listing of Bowling Green middle school
students who were honored.)

The Bowling Green Exchange Club again is recognizing area youth for the good things they’ve accomplished
this past year, in and out of the classroom.
The Exchange Club’s Positive Start program asks teachers to honor students who have done something
positive.
Students must live in the Bowling Green School District and be in grades 7 or 8. The purpose is to honor
students who have achieved “to the best of their abilities” to improve the school and community
settings.
A luncheon will be held Tuesday at Stone Ridge Golf Club to honor all 81 students who represent Bowling
Green Middle School, St. Aloysius Catholic School and Montessori School of Bowling Green.
BGMS – 8TH GRADE
Jena Kirian has received recognition for her hard work and involvement. She participates in a bowling
league, religious education and volunteers at a local nursing home. Jena also studies voice and piano.
She has earned several bowling scholarships and awards and has qualified for the Pepsi Youth Scholarship
program.
Makayla Lantz has worked extremely hard this year and has seen strong academic improvement. She
participates regularly in class and always has a positive attitude. With a smile on her face when she
enters a classroom, her teachers appreciate her politeness and attitude.
Ashley Mochensturm, in addition to be being a good student, is an athlete and a musician. She plays
competitive volleyball and basketball. She also plays the alto saxophone and earned a place in the Wood
County Honors Band.  Ashley also participates as a member of F.I.A.T.
Shivam Patel is very meticulous with all of his school work  He makes sure that all assignments are
completed to the best of his ability. Shivam participates actively in all of his classes and is one of
the strongest Math 8 students this year. His nominator made a point to thank him for his hard work and
effort.
Elijah Poetringer, a top tier student and a Safety Town volunteer, has an excellent work ethic and is
dedicated to learning. He is the president of the Bowling Green Middle School Builders Club. Elijah is
also involved in 4-H and is a former 4-H president.
Sabrina Ramos is currently a member of the middle school cheerleading team. She also participates in Pure
Energy Athletic Tumbling. Sabrina enjoys her involvement at school and is a positive contributor.
Jenna Sickler is a well-liked member of the middle school community. She has been involved as a member of
the track team. Jenna is also a competitive dancer at the Beat Dance Company. She has earned several
trophies and medals for her dance skills.
David Siegel is described as one of the kindest, hardest working, and curious students. He goes out of
his way to include other students, talk to a peer who is having a bad day, or asking a teacher how they
are feeling. David is an eager contributor in the group setting and in the classroom. He asks insightful
questions that show a natural curiosity and an understanding of the subject matter. During class David
is a student who can be counted on to have his work completed and be ready to contribute.
Terra Sloane, a vibrant participant in several school and community activities, is most known for her
creative endeavors. She participates in the Power of Pen and the Choral Society at Bowling Green Middle
School. Terra also participates in the Horizon Youth Theatre, and Girl Scouts of America, as well as
volunteering at the Historical Center. Terra also received the Baron Creative Arts Award at Kenwood
Elementary.
Eli Smith, honored this year as a Student of the Month in art, is an extremely dedicated and strong
student. He is a member of the quiz bowl team and the cross country team. Eli is also very active in his
church.
Alyssa Sockman is extremely conscientious and always puts her best effort into all of her work. She has
maintained high honors in all of her classes. She comes to class with a positive attitude and shares her
ideas and thoughts during class discussions. Alyssa is artistic and shares her talents in school and
within the community.
Darby Studer is a good student and an active athlete. She participates in volleyball, basketball, and
track. In addition to school sports, Darby is a member of the Latitude 41 Volleyball Club and Northwest
Jets basketball.
Naomi Timm, known for expressing herself through writing, is a kind and caring person. She tutors her
neighbor and regularly donates clothing to local clothing drives. Naomi participates in two church youth
groups and teaches younger children at her church. In addition, Naomi is a member of a Bible study group
and works on the Bowling Green Middle School yearbook committee.
ST. ALOYSIUS – 8TH GRADE
Ellie Boyle, a student who goes above and beyond on a daily basis, takes initiative to find ways to
assist others in the classroom, in the office, or helping a classmate with who may need help with an
assignment or opening their locker.  She is an excellent role model and assists younger students with
activities or just making them feel special. Ellie is also a dedicated student. Recently she earned a
place at the University of Toledo Science Day. In addition, she qualified for District History Day and
represented St. Aloysius at the National History Day.
Kaylee Dean is a high honors student who always gives her personal best. She is an excellent communicator
and uses her words in a caring and supportive manner. Kaylee is a natural leader and lets that quality
shine as an active member of the drama club, quiz bowl team, and student council.
Claire Heffernan, the current president of the St. Aloysius School Student Council, is a strong leader
who is organized and continually brings forward new ideas. She is a dedicated student who gives time to
many projects, especially her science fair project. She qualified for the district fair as well as the
State Science Fair where she was awarded first place for an outstanding biomedical/chemical project.
Meara Holden serves as the student council secretary, is a quiz bowl scholar and a CYO athlete. Her
sportsmanship on the court mirrors her classroom attitude. She is passionate about medical sciences and
excelled at the district science fair. Meara is an inspiration to other students who highly respect her
for her humble manner and her academic aspirations. She always wears a sincere smile and offers a kind
word to others.
Dominic Meszaros, a very responsible and trustworthy student, has a strong work ethic and gives his best
effort in all circumstances. He is a top scholar, a good friend, and shows concern for others. Dominic
is a participant in CYO track and serves his church as a lead altar server.
Jordan Nichols works extremely hard in the classroom. She is a very conscientious student who always
looks for ways to improve. Jordan is very polite with a positive attitude. She continually looks for
ways to encourage and support her classmates. Jordan recently earned a spot at the University of Toledo
District Science Fair.
Kaitlyn Taylor has earned top honors this year as a result of her dedication and perseverance. She is
well organized and is a very responsible student. Kaitlyn is always willing to help others, often taking
initiative to take care of tasks before being asked. She is creative and artistic and shares these
talents when opportunities are presented.
Kate Tretter is a very articulate and well-read student who excels academically. Her strong
organizational skills, sense of responsibility and personal integrity are evident inside and outside the
classroom. Kate serves the school as the student council treasurer, quiz bowl scholar, and as a CYO
athlete. When not on the basketball court, Kate enjoys playing soccer.
Hannah Wagner is admired for her artistic and creative talents as well as her academic success. She is an
excellent pianist and puts great time and effort into her artistic creations. Hannah is also a CYO
athlete, with basketball being her favorite sport. Hannah is also an articulate and eloquent speaker.
