Take the Patricia Polacco Challenge

0

Each year, Bowling Green State University’s Literacy in the Park project celebrates and explores the
roles literacy plays in everyone’s lives by welcoming children and their families from across Ohio and
beyond.
This year’s featured author, Patricia Polacco, will share her passion for literacy at the April 29 event
on campus.
Polacco has written and illustrated over 115 picture books. These books can be enjoyed at any age because
they teach valuable life lessons.
Children and families are invited to participate in the Patricia Polacco Challenge. The theme for this
year is: “Family is … ”
Students in pre-K through 12th grade can explore this topic and create their own interpretation of these
words.
For example, students could create a poem, rap, short story, letter, picture, playscript, painting,
timeline of family history or a family tree.
Submit submissions to [email protected].
A digital slideshow will be on display at Literacy in the Park.
Include the child’s name (first name only), grade, the teacher’s name and the school. Send the files in a
word, jpeg, gif, or pdf format.
One student from each grade level will be selected to win a prize. The results will be announced at the
event.
Submissions are due Saturday.
Literacy in the Park will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Perry Field House on April 29.
Each family receives a goodie bag with a free book by Polacco, who will give two presentations. There
will be booths, activities, entertainment, prizes and crafts.
