ACT: Raising Safe Kids class returns

The Children’s Resource Center will offer another session of its ACT: Raising Safe Kids class April
11-May 30.
The free course, which is held at the center, 1045 Klotz Road, will meet from 5:30-7:30 p.m. every
Tuesday.
This class teaches parents of young children positive forms of discipline and how to manage tantrums and
fights. To make it easier for parents to attend, the center provides child care and a family meal during
each session.
To register for the class or to learn more, contact Kristen Junga or Pam McKinley at Children’s Resource
Center, 419-352-7588.
Endorsed by the American Psychological Association, the class recognizes that most parents fall back on
the child-rearing methods their parents used.
But those who were raised with harsh, physical discipline may be looking for alternatives.
The class focuses on more positive, yet still effective ways of helping children deal with their feelings
and manage their anger.
Since children apply childhood lessons to their adult lives, it’s never too early for them to learn
peaceful ways to resolve conflicts.
ACT: Raising Safe Kids has been taught all over the United States. An independent study performed by the
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that graduates of ACT: Raising Safe Kids used less
harsh discipline with their children and benefited from the support of their classmates in the course.

The class has become so popular locally that the CRC now offers it year-round.
Another session will be scheduled for the summer.
Children’s Resource Center offers many other classes and programs for area families.
