Cookies and notes brighten Valentine’s Day

PERRYSBURG — Perrysburg Commons Retirement Center and Heartland of Perrysburg offered a way for the
community to say “Happy Valentine’s Day” to a special senior citizen in their life.
The commons took orders for a delivery of a complimentary Valentine’s box filled with heart-shaped
cookies, along with a message from the caller to anyone over 65 residing in Perrysburg. It was the
second annual event for the community effort.
During the week of Feb. 13, the commons and Heartland hit the streets to make the special deliveries to
more than 50 households. The program was part of similar efforts for all of the Heartland facilities
including Oregon, Wauseon and Waterville. More than 1,600 cookies were delivered to seniors 65 and
better to their homes along with customized notes from their loved ones.
“The overwhelming response to the Heart-O-Gram cookie delivery last year gave us the incentive to spread
this program out to the other communities our healthcare centers call home. Our main objective was to
let seniors know that they are an important part of our community and they are cherished,” said Ben
Perkins.
“It was so nice to make Valentine’s Day special for many folks. We received many hugs and smiles,” said
Susan Snoddy of Perrysburg Commons.
