Peace Lutheran brings in the sun to go green

Solar panels have been installed at Peace Lutheran Church, 1021 W. Wooster St., along the south side of
their building on the east end.
“They look great blending in well with the roofing,” Pastor Deb Conklin said. They have been ‘live’ for a
couple weeks and are operating great.”
A web-based app was included, allowing the church to access productivity reports as well as real-time
activity.
Peace expects up to 25 percent utility savings to be applied toward ministry.
The pastor noted this renewable energy and conservation project was made possible with the generous gift
received from the trust of longtime neighbors Leonard and Margaret Davis in 2014 and was one of three
projects undertaken to promote its mission of “Creating Christ Connected Community.” It proclaims God’s
resourcefulness and generosity by embracing and practicing good creation care, doing what it can to
lower its carbon footprint, reduce its negative impact on the environment and promote Peace’s calling to
the larger community in a positive and inviting manner.
It is being accomplished in four ways:
• An ongoing partnership with Ohio Interfaith Power & Light (www.ohipl.org) and its Energy
Stewards program to monitor and analyze our energy use and to advocate for creation care and smart
energy consumption.
• Upgrades the facility to LED lighting
• Purchase a solar picnic table equipped with lighting and outlets
• Installing solar panels on the south side to both promote and practice energy efficiency
The other two areas benefiting from the trust gift are sponsorship of a Syrian refugee family and a new
playground set.
A dedication of the solar panels was held last Sunday.
