Conservation district offering tree sale, workshop

The subject of trees is growing at the Wood Soil and Water Conservation District as the annual tree sale
is underway with a tree workshop also to be held.
This year’s tree seedling sale offers the conifers American arborvitae, Colorado blue spruce, Norway
spruce, concolor fir, bald cypress and white pine. The hardwoods being sold include swamp white oak, red
maple, tulip poplar, black walnut and shagbark hickory. Also being offered are wildlife shrubs including
red bud, common lilac, butterfly bush, black chokeberry and spicebush. A mixed packet of shrubs is also
available that contains varieties from each of all three types. Prices range from $9-$11 per packet of
10.
Red raspberry and black raspberry are also offered.
The order and payment deadline is Feb. 28. Order forms are available on the website at www.woodswcd.com,
on Facebook, by calling the Wood SWCD at 419-354-5517 or in person at the district office,: 1616 E
Wooster St. in the Greenwood Centre.
The Wood SWCD is hosting a tree workshop titled We All Need Trees, with Bowling Green City Arborist Grant
Jones and Ohio Department of Natural Resources State Service Forester Joe Puperi on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at
the Wood SWCD office.  
The presentation will offer solutions to planting the right tree in the right location, where to purchase
trees and tree maintenance. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation. It is free and
open to the public. Registration is appreciated to ensure enough materials.
