This weekend, the Rossford High School Drama Department opens the student-produced and student-directed
stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “The Fantastic Mr. Fox.”
The production is directed by RHS drama students Lizzy Hornyak and Adam Sauter.
“The Fantastic Mr. Fox” tells the story of Mr. Fox (junior Alex Chiarelott) who raids the farms of his
human neighbors, Boggis, Bunce and Bean (freshmen Hayden Sabovik, Luke Rhue and junior Nolan McHugh).
Giving in to his animal instincts endangers not only his marriage to Mrs. Fox (junior Hannah Beene) but
also the lives of his family and their animal friends including Mr. and Mrs. Badger (junior Derek
McIntosh and senior Summer Wheaton Rodriguez).
When the farmers force Mr. Fox further underground, he has to resort to natural craftiness to rise above
the opposition, creating an animal revolution.
The G-rated, family friendly production runs approximately an hour with one 15-minute intermission.
Production dates are tonight, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets
are $6 general admission at the door. Rossford High School Auditorium is located at Rossford High
School, 701 Superior St. Any further inquiries can be directed to [email protected].
Hornyak directs Act 1. She will attend Eastern Michigan University this fall where she plans to major in
Special Education and Administration. She has been in active in Drama Club all four years of high
school. Her favorite role was Roz Keith in “9 to 5: The Musical” and her favorite Drama Club memory is
when crown molding fell off the set during “Boeing-Boeing” but she continued to maintain her character
of Berthe, the maid, and held up the wall.
Sauter, who directs Act 2, will be majoring in Musical Theater and Secondary Education, and has yet to
decide which college he’ll attend. He has been active in Drama Club since grade school when he performed
as Young Patrick Dennis in the 2009 RHS production of “Mame.” His favorite role was the chauvinist boss,
Franklin Hart Jr. in “9 to 5: The Musical.” His favorite Drama Club memory was interacting with the
young kids asking for his autograph when he portrayed Prince Eric in “Disney’s The Little Mermaid.”
