Weston Public Library needs to implement several changes

To the Editor:
After reviewing the last four years of Weston Public Library Board of Directors meeting minutes, I
believe changes need to be implemented.
The board should set some priorities for the director and employees.
Over the last number of years, hours have been reduced with no regard for patron convenience. The Weston
library is the only library in the county with no weekend hours.
The board should also challenge the director to develop weekly programs for preschool, after school,
senior citizens and the general public. Other libraries in Wood County have a calendar of events on
their websites. Weston has no weekly events.
The board should develop a strategic plan for the implementation of technology and social media. The
computers in Weston and Grand Rapids branch need to be replaced. The library website and Facebook page
need to be updated on a constant basis.
Kudos to all other Wood County libraries for their commitment to social media and happenings in their
libraries. The Weston Public Library Board of Directors should take the initiative to implement change,
as the voters of the Otsego School District approved a levy over a year ago. We no longer need a
director and employees to baby-sit underutilized buildings devoid of patrons.
