Seniors’ Social Security plight needs much more attention

To the Editor:
Once again our seniors have gotten no increase.
A few years back Congress was threatening to close down the government because they were not allowing
President Obama to borrow more money. We were not to get an increase in Social Security as prices were
not increasing. Prices were fairly stable but the quantity became less. Example: 12 ounces of bacon
instead of 16, same price.
Congress broke down and gave the president the OK to borrow the money. The very next morning on the
morning news, our secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, was announcing the millions of dollars going
overseas to foreign countries. No money for seniors and this money could have gotten a lot of our
homeless veterans off the street.
In 2016 again no increase in Social Security because gas prices were low. Big deal! This year the prices
are going to again skyrocket as they are going to decrease production.
Now in 2017 there was an article in the paper telling the seniors they were getting an increase of 3
percent. Toward the very end of the article it also informed us we were getting a raise in Medicare.
This left me wondering how much they were going to take away from my Social Security check to pay the
increase in Medicare.
On Dec. 3, 2016, received my usual notice of my Social Security Income for 2017. There certainly was an
increase in Medicare and I was to receive the same 2016 amount for 2017. It did not show the amount of
the raise. I guess I am  happy the check did remain the same.
Any senior that is still working to supplement their income, still pays into Social Security every
paycheck.
