Ashley Furniture has had a distribution center in Bowling Green on Bellard Drive for at least 10 years,
and now it also has a retail store.
According to Eric Griffin, general manager, the HomeStore Select store at 840 S. Main St. is his third in
Northwest Ohio.
“This is a great community and opening here has been kind of exciting,” Griffin said. “We have had an
amazing response from the community.”
He said he believes the time was right for the store to open in Bowling Green. Griffin said the longtime
owner of Heringhaus Furniture, which is also on South Main Street, contacted Ashley about opening as he
was planning to retire.
“There really is no other quality furniture store in town,” Griffin said. “This spot sat empty for more
than six years.”
The store opened Nov. 19 and the grand opening celebration began Dec. 26. The celebration will continue
with special pricing through Sunday. One shopper will receive a $5,000 shopping spree. Visitors to the
store can enter the drawing once each day with the drawing held Saturday during the gala. The drawing
will be held at noon and the winner must be present to win.
“It will be a very exciting day for everyone,” Griffin said.
There will also be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday at 11 a.m. It is organized by the Bowling Green
Chamber of Commerce with Dick Edwards, Bowling Green’s mayor, doing the honors.
Tim Hurlbert, the location manager, said the Select style stores feature the most popular items in the
company line.
“It’s not the most expensive, but it is the items that our customers like. They have the best feel and
the best look,” Hurlbert said. “Ashley is the largest furniture manufacturer in the country and we
feature a wide variety of its products on our floor.”
Griffin explained the showroom floor displays roughly 10 percent of the entire Ashley line; however, they
can have anything else shipped and delivered within three weeks.
The store manager said delivery is made right to your home.
“We use the white-glove deliver system. You point, we place,” Hurlbert said.
Hurlbert said Ashley carries a wide range of furniture styles, including the new Heritage Road line that
has quickly become a favorite of customers.
“We have something for everybody,” he said.
Hurlbert said they also offer a full line of accessories including wall art, area rugs, lamps and other
decorative pieces.
He also said their lines run the gamut of quality, featuring “good, better and best.”
Griffin added they also carry a full line of mattresses.
“A good night’s sleep makes it a good day,” Hurlbert added.
Griffin said new merchandise comes in regularly, and it is rare to sell the floor models; they are
clearly marked as such when they are available.
Griffin was also proud of their banking partners, who offer “tons of zero-interest finance plans.”
“We can offer good plans for any budget and people can pay for it over a period of one year or up to five
years. That is one of our huge assets,” he said.
The 19,700-square-foot store employs 12 people, eight of whom are full time.
Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday.
