Silent majority must now speak loudly and clearly for good of the country

To The Editor:
According to a letter to the editor on Dec. 7, I am “one of those Republicans who have divided this
country by voting for an evil man.” Wow, I had no idea!
According to Hillary Clinton, I am one of “those irredeemable deplorables.” And I now carry the labels of
“homophobe, Islamophobe, hate monger, and one of those Christians who will hang onto their Bibles and
their guns.” I haven’t been called that many names since elementary school. So I have concluded that the
difference between a conservative like me and a progressive/liberal is this: name calling, blaming,
shaming, witch hunts and personal attacks.
I am all for freedom of speech and expressing one’s opinion, but insulting and attacking someone with
whom you disagree is unacceptable. Attack my opinions, fine. Attack me personally, never OK. Ironically,
this is exactly why Trump was elected and Hillary lost the presidency.
Obviously the liberal left has still not learned that lesson. When name calling, blaming, shaming, witch
hunts and personal attacks are employed, they backfire because then the content of the message (verbal
or written) gets lost and overridden by the derogatory and negative, condescending tone. Liberals seem
to live in the land of “wishful reality.” Just saying something is so makes it true, even if the facts
and results easily disprove whatever “it” is.
Just as we, the real silent majority spoke loud and clear on Nov. 8, we must continue to do so. Now is
the time to remain silent no more. Yes, we should keep on living our everyday lives, but continue to
mind our own business — NO.
We need to become involved in our communities, engage in politics, speak up and speak the truth and never
again allow those with opposing messages to drown out ours and bully us into silence and submission.
Our government is not the answer — we are. Our country needs each of us, liberal and conservative alike,
working together to make a positive difference.
The election of Trump was a divine miracle for us, and oh-so shockingly unbelievable to the liberals. But
it was just the beginning. The real work to maintain our momentum for America begins now. Let’s not drop
the ball!
