City of Bowling Green should get out of the electric power business

To the Editor:
If you noticed, the electrical rates in BG are sometimes double what is offered in the Ohio Choice
Program.
This would be great to switch to, but because our city fathers formed a muni power division we are stuck
with people gambling with our money and have no choice. I’ve talked to two city people about my concerns
and get the standard answer — it was before my time, mistakes were made.
I think it’s time the city explains its problem and talk about plans to fix it. We need to get out of the
electric power business and let private enterprise take the risk.
My December electric bill was $149.12. And if I could use Toledo Edison, it would be $79.82. I’m sure the
city will have multiple items that I did not include, which is fine but tell us with facts.
The city is saying they’re broke but want to spend millions more on the Wooster Street improvement than
it needs to. Fix what we have before taking on more spending.
