Former residents take podium at Washington state tournament

Former Bowling Green residents Alec and Andrew Hoover took the podium at the Washington State Wrestling
Tournament on February 21st. After relocating to Spokane Washington in 2009, the Hoover twins reached
the pinnacle in high school wrestling in the Pacific Northwest. The high school juniors came into the
tournament after winning both district and regional tournaments.
Alec wrestling 120-pound division and Andrew, also known as Rew, wrestling 126-pounds were co-captains on
the Mt. Spokane Wildcat wrestling team.
Both three-year varsity athletes were named Washington State Academic All-State, with a 4.0 grade point
averages.
Alec was crowned the 120-pound champion. With the match tied at 2-2 after the first period Alec denied
his opponent escape points in the second period. He then escaped to score the one point margin of
victory in the third period. After a stumble in the quarterfinals, Rew pinned his way to a third place
finish at 126 pounds. They end the season with identical records of 34 wins and 7 losses. Alec was also
awarded Washington State Athlete of the week following the tournament.
While in Bowling Green, they wrestled with the Bowling Green biddy wrestling program and coaches Greg
Hoverson and Gary Cromley. The Hoover twins follow in the footstep of their brother, John Hoover who was
the 2013 Washington State champion at 145 pounds.
In 2016 they have the goal of both claiming the top spot.
