NAPOLEON — The Bowling Green High School boys basketball team struggled offensively Friday in a 43-20
Northern Lakes League loss to Napoleon.
Despite cold shooting, BG battled to 18-14 with 3:57 remaining in the third quarter following a Ryan
Ludwig 3-pointer.
But Napoleon answered with a 15-0 run to make it 33-14 with 6:35 remaining in the game.
“That little stretch in there was the key of the game. We really just couldn’t get anything going
offensively,” said BG coach Mark Malinowski. “When shots aren’t going, nothing looks good.”
Trent Hinton paced BG with 11 points. Blake Dunbar led all scorers with 15 points for Napoleon.
In the first half, offense proved difficult for both teams as Napoleon led just 16-11 going into the
break.
“People will see the score of tonight’s game and they won’t realize what a nice job we did defensively in
the first half,” Malinowski said.
Napoleon hit a last second three to end the first half.
“For all intents and purposes, we held them to 13 points in the first half,” Malinowski said.
In the third quarter, BG was held to just one field goal — Ludwig’s 3-pointer.
Meanwhile, things heated up offensively for the Wildcats.
“In the second half, they started making some shots and they started getting some confidence and our
confidence waned,” Malinowski said.
BG didn’t score again until Hinton hit a free throw with 6:29 remaining in the game. Hinton had all six
of BG’s fourth-quarter points.
BG dropped to 2-8 overall and 2-3 in the NLL. Napoleon is 6-3, 3-2.
