Bowling Green’s Board of Public Utilities will likely hold a special meeting next week to deal
with an electric rate increase to take effect next March.Director of Utilities Brian O’Connell told the BPU
Monday that final figures had not been completed.A preliminary report on a rate study presented to the board
last month indicated 5 percent rate hikes in each of the next four years was likely.However, the BPU did
approve Monday the 2014 Water and Sewer Capital Improvement Fund budget and the 2014 Utilities Revenue Funds
budget.The board also:• Accepted easements along Brim Road north of Bishop Road that will allow completion
of a an electric loop circuit to provide better service to that area.• Agreed to an increase from 4.2 cents
per gallon to 6.2 cents per gallon for septage that haulers deliver to the waste water treatment plant on
North Dunbrudge Road. The 4.2 cent rate has been in effect since 2008. O’Connell said the new rate is more
in line with the charge at area treatment plants.• Transferred funds to meet end of year expenses.• Granted
an accommodation water tap for a residence at 20190 Asmus Road. The property owner will pay the
out-of-corporation rate for the tap and install the water line at his expense. The line cannot be used to
serve any other property.
