Ohio lawmakers seek to streamline local tax laws

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Two Republican state lawmakers in Ohioare pushing a series of proposals to
make local taxes easier to collectand pay, in an effort to keep and retain businesses.State Reps. Cheryl
Grossman and Mike Henne released details of their latest proposal on municipal income taxes
Wednesday.Changeswould include consolidating tax returns to reduce compliance costs andstandardizing
interest rates and penalties. They also want to establishuniform due dates for all municipal tax returns and
uniform withholdingrequirements for all employers.The revised bill represents acompromise between business
interests and more than 600 local governmententities that collect and rely on income from such
taxes.Grossmansays Ohio’s patchwork of local tax rules and its 300 different localtax forms lead important
