The Rangers won the fourth annual World Series of "Basebowl at Al-Mar Lanes on
Sunday.Zeke Varella, Richie Serrato and James Nickels competed as the Rangers and sent the Tigers to the
losers’ bracket by a 5-2 score in the double-elimination event, then topped the team of Stephanie
Piocek, Pancha Melendrez and Kathy Combs with a second win.The Rangers shared $240 for their win, while
the Tigers earned $150 for second place.The Marlins, consisting of Anita Sharpe, Tyler Desmond and Adam
Dilsaver, earned third place, good for $90.The format of this event awards runs for team members besting
individual scores on the opposing team. The team with the most runs after the specified number of games
gets the win.The Rangers won the championship match, 4-2, with Nickels earning two runs over Coombs,
while Varella and Serrato each scored one run for the winning team. Piocek and Melendrez each scored a
run for the Tigers.The Rangers defeated the Dodgers, 6-3 and the Pirates, 6-5, in the first two rounds
to advance to the semifinals against the Tigers. The Tigers topped the A’s, 6-1 and the Mud Hens, 5-3,
in their first two matches before dropping to the loser’s brackets where they defeated the Marlins, 2-1,
to reach the finals.Brad Simon, bowling for the Pirates, had the highest two games of the day with 256
in one match and 254 in another.Youth of the Week: Youth bowlers who bowled the most pins over their
