TOLEDO – As part of a 20-diocese tour, a saint’s writing desk called an escritoire, will make
an appearance Oct. 9-10 at two Toledo parishes.St. Therese of Lisieux used the desk almost daily between
1894 and her death in 1897. This is the first time the relic of the woman known as "Little
Flower" has ever been allowed outside the Carmelite convent in France where St. Therese lived and
died.The saint used the desk as well as the pen and inkwell which is part of the exhibit when writing
her autobiography, "Story of a Soul," along with plays, poems letters and prayers. The late
Pope John Paul II declared her a "Doctor of the Church." He said, "The insights of faith
expressed in her writings are so vast and profound that they deserve a place among the great spiritual
masters."The desk, also called a case, will be available for viewing at Little Flower Parish, 5522
Dorr St., Toledo, on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. It will then be at
Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Boulevard, Toledo, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Bishop Leonard Blair will
celebrate a Mass at the cathedral at 7 p.m.
