[email protected].)Alyssa Shimel, from Eastwood High School, will be a senior on the University of
Michigan women’s golf team this fall.At the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, Shimel finished with a 152
total on rounds of 76-76. The cut was at 150 with five players with a 150 in a playoff for the final four
spots in 64-player match play field.In July, Shimel used a round of 76 at the U-M Golf Course to qualify for
the tournament.In June, Shimel lost 1-up in 19 holes to eventual champion Natalie Goodson in the match play
semifinal of the of the Women’s Ohio State Amateur Championship held at the Lake Forest Country Club in
Hudson.Using a qualifying round of 74 to earn the No. 3 seed, Shimel defeated No. 30 seed Ashley Jeffers,
4-and-2, in her opening match. She advanced to the semifinal after a 5 and 3 win over No 14 seed Sarah
Kolodzik and 2 and 1 win over No. 22 seed Jule Lechner.Bailey BredenbeckCorp, from Perrysburg High School,
is a senior on the Bellarmine University volleyball team.She currently ranks third on Bellarmine’s career
assist record list with 3,007 assists.Last season, she finished No. 12 in the nation in assists for NCAA
Division II schools, averaging 11.30 assists per set.In the Great Lakes Valley Conference, she was ranked
second in assists and seventh in service aces (0.30 per set).BredenbeckCorp led the team in assists with
1,085 (10th most in program history) and aces with 29 on the season, helping lead the team to an 18-10
overall record.She received Academic All-GLVC honors for the third year in a row, as well as receiving the
D2ADA Academic Achievement Award for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least a
3.50.Bredenbeck is majoring in art education.Mason Mayberry, from Bowling Green High School, will be a
sophomore on the University of Findlay baseball team this season.He played with the Toledo Hawks this summer
and finished the Tri-State College League with an 8-0 record and 54 strikeouts in 42 innings. Both marks led
the league.Hunter Smith, from Perrysburg High School, was a freshman on Michigan State’s baseball team last
spring.Smith played for the Toledo Hawks this summer and led the league with four home runs.Alex Williams,
from Perrysburg High School, will be a junior on the University of Findlay baseball team this season.He
played with the Toledo Hawks this summer and finished the season with 20 appearances (second in the league)
and tied for the most saves in the league (six).
