9-year-old Ohio boy killed while examining gun

CANTON, Ohio (AP) — A 9-year-old northeastern Ohio boy waslooking at a gun with his teenage
cousin when the firearm went off andkilled him in an apparent accident.Stark County Sheriff GeorgeMaier
says 9-year-old Matthew Schreckengaust of Canton was visitingfamily when he and his 14-year-old cousin
began examining the gun Fridayevening. They didn’t know it was loaded.Maier says the gun went off in
what appears to be an accidental discharge, and Matthew was killed.The gun belonged to the older boy’s
father, but Maier says it’s unclear yet whether the gun had been locked up.He says deputies are still
investigating the shooting and considering charges.Maiertells the Canton Repository
