Perrysburg to start development program

PERRYSBURG – Perrysburg Schools, in partnership with the Perrysburg Schools Foundation, is
establishing a development program to continue the tradition of academic excellence. As part of this
plan, a full-time development director will be hired this summer to lead the effort of seeking financial
gifts from alumni, supporters and those with an affinity for Perrysburg Schools. The district retained
Aly Sterling Philanthropy to assess Perrysburg Schools’ fundraising potential, provide strategic
direction and lead this recruitment effort.A salary range has not been set for the new hired. Salary
will be commensurate based on experience, said Matt Feasel, district treasurer and chief financial
officer."The public school funding model is changing, and Perrysburg School District is taking
proactive steps in facing these new fiscal realties," stated Thomas L. Hosler, superintendent.
"This is a unique concept in traditional public schools: a revenue-generating position. This
program’s goal will be to enable the district to reduce our reliance on local tax dollars."The
development program is designed to keep the district competitive with private and charter schools that
have cultivated donors, many with strong Perrysburg ties. The district loses locally levied funds every
time a student leaves for a charter school. Vouchers under discussion at the state level for private
schools would be structured similarly. The development program will also help parents and students since
the district will be able to offer more enrichment activities, gap-closing measures and technology
integration, which will promote academic excellence. It also enables Perrysburg to continue to be a
destination district that provides a well-rounded educational experience. The district will accept,
manage and distribute gifts according to donor wishes and established district goals and priorities that
include academics, athletics, facilities, fine and performing arts, programs, materials and
technology. The district has been working closely with the Perrysburg Schools Foundation (PSF), and PSF
board President Nick Camp, on this program.PSF is a nonprofit organization, established in 1983, which
was formed to solicit contributions to supplement and enhance existing educational programs in the
Perrysburg School District. The original board of directors was comprised of nine citizens who created
the mission statement and began raising funds.PSF was built on the belief that the entire community
benefits from excellent schools.
